An automatic feeder has one job, and the way it fails is silent. The motor runs, the auger turns against a jammed piece of kibble, and nothing reaches the bowl. You find out when you get home. Who it is actually for
A cat on a vet-set diet. Eighth-of-a-cup steps and up to eight meals a day let you follow a weight plan closely, and the app’s history shows what was dispensed, which is useful to bring to a check-up. Portion sizes are a decision for your vet, not the feeder.
A household already running a Litter-Robot. The same app manages both, which is a genuine convenience if you already live in it.

Who should buy something cheaper
Most households. A mainstream feeder with a wide anti-blockage throat, a low-food sensor and a battery compartment covers the same ground for a fraction of the price. The two things to check before relying on it
Power. The black listing we link to does not mention a backup battery, though some Feeder-Robot listings do. A feeder is the one piece of pet gear where a power cut means a missed meal, so settle this before a trip. Your kibble. Anti-jam design reduces jams; it does not make every food shape dispense perfectly. Run it for a week while you are home, watching that each scheduled meal actually arrives, before you trust it with a weekend away.
A cat that stops eating is a vet question, not a feeder question, however reliable the machine. Feeding data can help you notice a change sooner. It cannot tell you why.

Can it do wet food?

How precise are the portions?
More precise than most feeders. It dispenses in steps of an eighth of a cup, up to half a cup per meal, between one and eight times a day. That granularity is useful for a cat whose vet has set a weight-loss plan, where several small meals often suit better than two large ones. Weigh a few portions with your own kibble when you set it up, because pieces vary in size and density.
Do I have to use the app?
For scheduling, largely yes. Meals are set through the Whisker app, which also keeps a history of what was dispensed. There is also a gravity mode that simply lets food flow into the bowl, for times you do not need portion control.
